The Heritage Foundation is a renowned American conservative think tank based in Washington, D. C. Founded in February 1973 by Paul Weyrich, Edwin Feulner and Joseph Coors, the organization has been at the forefront of many initiatives and projects. It has been involved in the culture wars of the 1990s, advocating for business-friendly policies, anti-communism and neoconservatism, as well as for the Christian right.

The Heritage Foundation also published Policy Review, a public policy magazine until 2001. It was later acquired by the Hoover Institution. In January 1981, it published The Leadership Mandate, a comprehensive report aimed at reducing the size of the federal government and providing public policy guidance to the next Reagan administration.
This book was the product of more than 400 academics and policy experts from across the conservative movement and across the country. The Heritage Foundation also offers young leaders from across the country Washington, DC an Online Program for Emerging Leaders.
